01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

The menu ranges from salt-grilled tongue and skirt steak to chewy cuts, yukke, stone-pot bibimbap and cold noodles. Yakiniku is the focus at Masuichi - East, but there are plenty of options to round out the meal. One family who visited ordered several of these dishes and singled out the tenderness of the meat and how well it went with the dipping sauce.

For salt-grilled meat, the restaurant’s signature negi-shio kalbi and salt-grilled hoso are tempting choices. Yama-wasabi soy sauce is suggested as an accompaniment to salt-grilled cuts, adding a different flavour alongside the meat. The grilled-shabu loin and kalbi are quickly seared and served with grated daikon ponzu, offering a change of pace from meat grilled with tare sauce.

Offal is another way to explore a variety of cuts. The small intestine, called hoso, is described as the restaurant’s most popular choice. Other options include tecchan, or large intestine; urute, noted for its crunchy texture; and kokoro, described as mild in flavour. For those who can’t decide, the connoisseur’s mixed offal platter brings together several cuts.

A bowl of rice makes a straightforward accompaniment, while negi-shiso rice or stone-pot bibimbap topped with an onsen egg can serve as the centrepiece of a meal. The negi-shiso rice is seasoned with chopped spring onion, sesame oil, salt and pepper. The bibimbap is noted for its fragrant, crisp rice crust. To finish, there is beef-bone cold noodle soup made with Morioka-style noodles, or salt tail ramen featuring oxtail soup simmered for six hours. Cold noodles are also listed in a half portion, a useful option for a lighter finish after yakiniku.

One family who dined with children mentioned that a baby chair was available and that they ate in a semi-private room. The restaurant also notes that it can accommodate families, and that dinner reservations are available and recommended. Choose the cuts of meat, then settle on rice or noodles to finish: it is a dinner option where groups can discuss their order together.
